The Ferrari F8 Tributo was Ferrari’s mid-rear-engined twin-turbo V8 berlinetta, introduced as the replacement for the 488 GTB. Ferrari Australasia showed it in Sydney in August 2019, with first deliveries due in the first quarter of 2020 (GoAuto, 29 August 2019).

As at 24 October 2026 the F8 Tributo and F8 Spider are not in Ferrari’s current range. The 296 GTB and 296 GTS use a hybrid V6, and the 849 Testarossa uses a V8 with hybrid assistance. That makes the F8 Tributo the last mid-rear-engined Ferrari with a twin-turbo V8 and no hybrid system. Ferrari still sells a twin-turbo V8 without a hybrid system in the front-engined Amalfi.

What Changed from the 488

The name is a tribute to Ferrari’s V8 engines. On Ferrari’s published figures, the main changes over the 488 GTB were:

Ferrari quotes a lap of its Fiorano test track in 1 minute 22.5 seconds for the F8 Tributo.

The Engine

The F8 Tributo uses a 3.9-litre (3,902 cc) twin-turbocharged V8 that makes 720 cv (530 kW) at 8,000 rpm and 770 Nm of torque. This V8 family won International Engine of the Year in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, in 488 GTB and 488 Pista form, and in 2018 it was named the best engine of the past 20 years (Ferrari, 5 June 2018 and 22 May 2019). In its February 2019 launch material, Ferrari called the 720 cv version the most powerful V8 it had built for a car outside its special-series range, with a specific output of 185 cv per litre.

Ferrari’s description of the 488 GTB version of this V8 points to the parts behind its quick response: a flat-plane crankshaft, turbochargers on ball-bearing shafts, lightweight titanium-aluminium compressor wheels, twin-scroll exhaust routing and 200-bar direct fuel injection. For the F8 Tributo, Ferrari says the 720 cv arrives without turbo lag.

Ferrari quotes 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/h. The gearbox is a 7-speed dual-clutch unit.

Dynamics and Brakes

Ferrari says its engineers worked on integrating the engine and aerodynamics with the latest vehicle dynamics control systems, to make the car’s performance easier to use. Side Slip Control moved from version 6.0 to 6.1 because Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer now also works in the Race position of the manettino dial.

Ferrari lists brake discs of 398 mm at the front and 360 mm at the rear. The tyres are 245/35 at the front and 305/30 at the rear, on 20-inch wheels.

F8 Spider

The F8 Spider uses the same engine and gearbox in a retractable hard-top body. Ferrari says the roof takes 14 seconds to open or close and can be operated at up to 45 km/h. Ferrari quotes a dry weight of 1,400 kg for the Spider, which is 70 kg more than the coupe.

Neither variant is sold new any more. Ferrari’s current range does not list the F8 Tributo or the F8 Spider, so any F8 you buy now is a used car.

Australian Launch Pricing

Ferrari Australasia priced the F8 Tributo at $484,888 before on-road costs when it showed the car in Sydney in August 2019 (GoAuto, 29 August 2019; Carshowroom, 2 September 2019). The F8 Spider followed in March 2020 at $536,888 before on-road costs, $52,000 more than the coupe (GoAuto, 13 March 2020). These are launch prices, and the F8 is no longer sold new.

Used F8 prices change with kilometres, specification and service history. Check current listings for the exact car, and ask for the full service record.

Running Costs

Servicing outside the program, tyres and insurance are quoted by dealers, specialists and insurers, and the price depends on the car’s age, kilometres and history. Ask for written quotes on the exact car, and ask an official Ferrari dealer how much of the seven years is left.

Verdict

On Ferrari’s figures the F8 Tributo is a mid-rear-engined coupe with a 720 cv twin-turbo V8, a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. It was the last Ferrari of its layout without a hybrid system.

The F8 Tributo is no longer sold new in Australia, so the one you buy is a used car. What matters most is the service history and how much of the seven-year Genuine Maintenance program is left, which an official Ferrari dealer can confirm.
